Peer Mentoring

Peer Mentoring Program

The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Peer Mentoring Program at Saint Peter’s University is committed to promoting student success, engagement, and persistence toward graduation. This program is designed to support first-year TRIO SSS students by connecting them with trained upperclassmen mentors who offer guidance, encouragement, and insight as they navigate their college journey.

Peer Mentors help new students overcome challenges, access campus resources, and reach academic and personal milestones. Through this supportive relationship, mentees build confidence and develop a stronger sense of community within TRIO and the university.

At the same time, Peer Mentors benefit from valuable leadership experience, professional development, and opportunities to give back. Mentors strengthen their skills by leading workshops, facilitating discussions, and expanding their campus networks.

Program Highlights

  • Workshops & Events: Peer Mentors organize and lead a variety of events each semester focused on essential student success topics, including time management, self-care, note-taking strategies, and more.
  • Support System: Mentees receive both one-on-one and group support, helping them succeed academically and personally during their transition to college life.
  • Experienced Peer Mentors: Mentors are upperclassmen who have completed a comprehensive 12-hour foundational training and are actively involved in the TRIO SSS program.
  • Certified Peer Educators: All Peer Mentors are certified through the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), equipping them with skills to support their peers effectively.

The TRIO SSS Peer Mentoring Program creates a strong foundation for student achievement, builds lasting connections, and enhances the overall college experience for both mentors and mentees.
